Things here have changed. It feels so strange, like walking through a doorway into an entirely new room. My eyes are adjusting to the light, and I feel the door behind me easing shut, rescinding the least interesting offer: to return to where I once was.
Notes from rehearsals w/Matt (keys)
Matt: Thanks for the hang today. This is new, and I didn't expect everything to work, but so much of it did, I'm psyched.
Everybody Knows: That's the first time it really worked. I effed around w it a bit, and god damn if it's not fine the way I gave it to you originally. I can't kick the tires on that one any harder than I have. I don't even think those reharmonies are needed after the chorus - just 8 bars that roll through the two chord change at the end of the B section, and back into the verse and we're done. I'd like to kick it out of the nest.
You Could Be Anywhere - maybe? There's SO much room, maybe you can lead?
Ever Since - the tradeoff in the solo was really nice
1000 Miles - the wurli SONAR sound was aces, switch to piano is great
Grace - Nope. It would require a total rethinking from a different direction. Maybe bridges need to be built from where the other songs are to where that one lives. So much else to get to, let's let this one go.
Count to Ten - all piano as I recall, and the padding you did was nice, also where you come in (second verse)
Free - I think we got it, with the simplicity of you playing with guitar voicings.
Underwater: Always fun. Jessie nailed it on the cello, too. When it all combines in one room... oof, gonna be fun as shit.
Someday - awesome creepiness, like the new version, and also simple vocal bckgrds are good to go
SOLO PIECE FOR ME Johnsburg, Illinois - just cuz I love the song
WOULD BE FUN: Lights - Journey=fun, and you get the solo which would break the set up and add always-welcome humor
Now, to set list order... next.
